Phoning Home
Many visitors have found that their US-issued cell phones do work on the island; however, reception may be a bit spotty. Roaming charges will most likely be applied so check with your stateside issuer to find out what that rate would be when calling home from Cozumel.

You may also want to consider purchasing a Telmex phone card from any of the island's pharmacies. When used with the silver Telmex phones, located all over the island, it is often the best and cheapest way to call home.

WARNING! Do not use the blue or silver phones that you see all over the streets in town that say, "Call USA, Canada Direct." These phones charge outrageous prices!

The best place on the island to phone out of the country are at any of the numerous calling stations or internet cafes. Call worldwide at a reasonable rate. Fax and Internet services are likely available at your hotel. Be sure to ask about connection fees first.

Emailing
If you are in need of checking up on things back home or want to send some of your great digital pictures to loved ones, you won't have any trouble emailing from the dozens of internet cafes on the island. Some even allow you to use your own laptop to connect. The rate is usually around $1 to $2 an hour.

There are several internet shops on the main plaza or within a few blocks. Be sure to check your hotel, too. Many now have internet access in the lobby.
